US, G7 partners to impose new anti-Russian sanctions on Feb 24

WASHINGTON, Feb 17 (PRIME) -- The U.S. and its partners in the Group of Seven leading industrial nations (G7) plan to impose new, large-scale sanctions on Russia on February 24, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland said in a news briefing late on Thursday.

“I think you will see around the 24th a big new package of sanctions from both the U.S. and from all of our G7 partners,” she said.

The sanctions will deepen restrictions in the sectors, where Washington had already imposed sanctions, for instance, the flow of technology and hi-tech equipment to the Russian defense industry, she said.

In addition to sanctioning the individuals who are directly involved and support the conflict in Ukraine, the U.S. also targets sanctions evasion, Nuland said.
